What year did you become a real estate agent?
2003
How many years have you been in Real Estate?
4 years now. I was in Education for over 18 years before I began Real Estate. I've always had an a
What is the average home price in your market?
The average price in our area is around $350,000 to $450,000.
Are there any new developments or trends in your area?
The growth in Botetourt County over the past few years has been phenomenal and we aren't seeing it letting up. A TND (Traditional Neighborhood Development) is being constructed, for the first time, in our area now. It's designed on the 'Town Square' idea with retail and offices and some multi-housing in that town-like area and then surrounded with residential homes with green spaces and sidewalks.
Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
I enjoy being a REALTOR for a multitude of reasons: flexibility for my family, my passion for people and their needs alond with my passion for architecture/history, the marketing aspect that's involved, the negotiations, the hunt for the perfect buyer or seller, just all of it!
What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
Educating the client as to how this can really work for their situation through following the process. So many clients come to the process thinking they already know everything there is to know and it's so much more than that.
Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
One of my clients had a frustrating situation, in that he was moving across the country to an entirely different market here. He had specific criteria that he wanted met and was also waiting for his home to sell. It took a year, but through patience and persistance it all paid off and he is delighted with his new home! Funny thing is...it's in my own neighborhood, so we are now neighbors!
What is your best characteristic?
Communication! I have such a pet peeve against people NOT communicating that I make sure my clients and I are on target with our goals and ideas.
Who or what inspires you the most?
What inspires me most is 'the Golden Rule'. I always treat other people the way I want to be treated...with honesty, kindness and integrity.
What is the best advice you ever received?
Because I empathize with people, I'm not very 'tough skinned.' A client once told me that I would have to 'toughen up somewhat' and not take things personally, but to retain my genuine compassion.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Right here in Botetourt County, Virginia!
