Suspect Business Practices
Having worked with Phaley A. Hilsabeck and Century 21 for years, as a tenet, I can honestly say that if you have any other options, you should pursue them first. Phaley and her ilk at Century 21 are extremely suspect and are known to engage in highly shady business practices. For example, Phaley and her co-workers knowingly insert clauses into lease extensions attempting to force tenets to remain in their property during the “slow months” of the year: Oct, Nov, Dec, and Jan. They do this in an effort to force their tenets into paying rent for a full 1/3 of a year longer than they otherwise would. They also make no attempt to disclosing their unheard of the requirement. They operate on an "it's you're fault if you're stupid enough to let us take advantage of you" business model. Another example of Phaley and her colleague's willingness to engage in extremely unethical practices is their routine attempts to bully tenets into doing their work for them. Phaley often insists that renters have no other option than posting their own ads on sites like Craigslist (at the renter's expense). She preambles this by insisting that moving-out notice can only be given on the 1st of the month, which is not stipulated in any Century 21 contract. Therefore, if the renter doesn't want to pay several weeks of extra rent (which is a lie since renters can move out on any date, provided they give 30-days notice) they need to actively work to find a renter themselves (i.e. do her job for her). If you're forced to deal with Phaley A. Hilsabeck and Century 21, please be mindful that she and her co-workers can and will violate any and all ethical standards just to take a few extra bucks out of your pocket.
