My husband and I recently bought our first home for what we thought was a great deal. Well, it turns out that the builder cut a number of corners and our home hasn't been as good of a deal as we expected. When we bought the place, the complex was still being worked on and the agent led us to believe that the landscaping, parking lot, and pool would be ready to go as soon as they finished work. They say the work has been finished, but the pool's out of code and unusable, the parking lot was barely drivable, and we've had to take care of the landscaping ourselves. Our HOA has contacted an attorney, but the builder won't answer his calls or his own lawyer's calls. Since our attorney charges $50 a phone call, at this point, it's become too expensive for us to continue using since our builder left us with an $8,000 negative balance in our HOA account.
