UNPROFESSIONAL, IMMORAL, LYING, CHEATING, STEALING
Mary Margaret Sheffield is a NUT JOB!!!!!!!! I have rented from her for a year and a half. She is derogatory, disrespectful and manipulative. She will manipulate your lease, your rent, and your time until she gets the most money she can get. She is a vulture. She is conniving, money hungry and quite frankly a huge fu*cking B!tCH and this is coming from someone who doesn't use bad language. She convinced me to sign a 6 month lease by swindling me into the idea that my rent wouldn't go up in 6 months and that it would "be easier for her to rent out the place in the summer time when I decide to leave in the future" and put a clause in my lease that the rent would not increase this summer,reassurring me that I would be able to renew my lease this summer. I called to renew my lease and she REFUSED to offer me one and is raising the rent by over 275 dollars in an area where no one pays that much. So now I'm homeless as of mid-summer and made no plans nor saved extra money because I wasn't expecting to move. She is unprofessional, rude, and basically lives in a converted trailor that she brags extensively about when you go by her "home office" She employs her children and screams accross the house at them. She is abrasive, difficult to reach, a liar and a underhanded businesswoman. STAY SO FAR AWAY. SHE WILL SCREW YOU OVER IN ANY WAY SHE GETS. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND RENTAL LAWS IF YOU DO SIGN WITH HER AND GOOD LUCK, I feel sorry for you.
Simply awful renting experience
Mary is unreasonable, difficult to deal with, gets overly emotional and tries to make excuses based on family issues... extremely unprofessional. I've had to hear her yelling on the phone with her kids early in the morning when she came by for maintenance (not requested by me). She sent me extremely inflammatory emails threatening to take my deposit for illegitimate reasons prior to move-out and I had to fight very hard, get extensive documentation, and demonstrate my awareness of Texas law to prevent her from taking my money.
very difficult landlord
She took over as landlord of a unit I had been renting and seemed fine at first, but soon began to make me very nervous. She cancelled and changed times on appointments constantly, her service people rarely showed up when they were supposed to and never completed jobs within the specified time frame. There were safety issues that never got fixed, and when there was a gas leak in the adjoining unit and the tenant was out of town, she refused to do anything and had me deal with the gas company even though I had to evacuate my family and my name was not on the account for that unit and I had no responsibility or even right to deal with the account. Her obsession with her poodle is also off-putting.
Do not rent with her!
I wish I would have read these posts before I leased from her. It was a great property, but she was a horrible person to work with. She was continuously unprofessional, and completely took advantage of us on our move out. In short, she's a horrible landlord and person. Do not rent from her.
Horrible person to rent or do business with.
We have been renting a house from her for 4 years. She has had a total hands off approach to being a landlord. The repairmen that she employees are rude and she never gives notice of when they will show. It has been clear to us that she could care less about her tenants. She will take every last bit of your money and give nothing in return. In 4 years she has come by the house twice? The only reason we stayed renting from her was the owner of the home was an Angel to deal with. Take this womans license please. Stay away Austin.
Mary is a great person to rent from!
I think Mary Sheffield is a great person to rent from! She's very nice, respects privacy, and responds to any maintenance requests IMMMEDIATELY. She always answers her phone too! My boyfriend and I have rented from her for a year and the ONLY reason we are moving is because we need a bigger place. She is currently showing our property and always gives a few hour notice before anyone shows up. My boyfriend is a lawyer and she has never done anything that was even remotely questionable as to disregarding any landlord/ tenant laws. Believe me, my boyfriend would look into it! We'll miss Mary as our manager!
WARNING! She moved us in across from a sex offende
WARNING, I have three small children and she leased a house to us right across the street from a registered sex offender, and wants to charge us additional fees for breaking the lease. Do not trust her. She should loose her real estate license. We also had repair men showing up unannounced who were stealing electricity and water too.
She is Good
We rented a home from Mary for two years. We needed maintenance for three items, the fence, the bathroom and something else, each time Mary returned my call promptley and had someone take care of the problem in a very timely manner. I would highly recommend her as an agent or manager.
Great Landlord
My husband and I lived in a rental house managed by Mary for 2 years, which also backed up to her property. She was extremely respectful of our privacy, responsive to repair requests, and she worked with us when we were trying to buy a home and needed to extend our lease a few months. She balances the needs and rights of the tenant very well with the financial goals of her property owners. The duplex we lived in was old and cute. It needed some serious energy efficiency upgrades and maybe some electrical work, but we never complained about these things. It came with an old house with an extremely reasonable rent rate. When our A/C unit went out, she sent a repair man over ASAP to replace it and was equally responsive with our other requests. Overall our experience with Mary was very good. She was never rude or disrespectful to us.
There's something wrong
I don't know what they're smoking but that's not the Mary we know. We haven't bought a house from her but she's been a wonderful landlord. She's dealt with most of our problems promptly. She's friendly and has taken our concerns to heart. She's gone out of her way to make sure our concerns are addressed, gotten prompt pest control services when needed and has been willing to work with us when problems have arisen as long as we have given her some advanced notice. If i'm ever going to purchase a house in austin, i'd definitely work with Mary. Matter of fact, i'm trying to get a friend to rent a unit from her. This is one of the few times in my 18 years in austin that i've renewed a lease and am willing to do so again when the contract is up.
Very helpful
She has been my property mgr. for a year. The tenant who referred to her as "Slum Lord" was uncooperative with repair requests and his dog killed a neighbor's dog. He was also very profane with her and trashed the place when he left. He ought to be sued for slander.
Recent tennant
Beware! This woman is ruthless. Never rent from her. I am an upright business woman whom she took total advantage of. No mater how wonderful the property she is listing is, don't deal with her. She will steal from you any way she seems fit. Absolutely no ethics here. Beware!
CRAZY WOMAN
She IS unprofessional & rude, not to mention CRAZY! We agreed to use her services despite the awful reviews to give her a chance, but she confirmed every one of them. We were even ready to sign a lease after her unacceptable behavior, but she made all sorts of excuses to pressure us into signing without reading the lease. She also hung up on us twice even though we were more than willing to compromise and accommodate her VERY busy schedule--she wanted us to go to her house late at night to sign a lease we hadn't read because she claimed she wouldn't be available the next day because she had to bake a cake, groom her poodle, and many other VERY important things. To sum it up, she's crazy and not someone we would like to sign a year long contract with. Stay away from her. (We're not people who give extreme reviews online, but she deserves these and more). She was that awful--I need an aspirin.
Rude and Unprofessional
As a homeowner, I would not use Mary Sheffield under any circumstance. She is rude and unprofessional. She misses appointments, believes her time is more valuable than yours and has no concept of Landlord/Tenant laws. I have not and will not recommend her services.
SLUM lord!
Mary Sheffield took over as property manager of a house I lived in.She was so awful I chose to terminate my lease (I had lived there 3yrs before she took over).She was rude, refused to fix things,sometimes would not even respond to repair requests,threatened to have me evicted because I had a dog all though I paid a pet deposit (luckily I had documentation)the list goes on AND on!She is a slum lord and will try to swindle her tenents.If you interact with her make sure to get everything in writing!
No good at all
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! She is a rude very inefficient person who acted rediculous the entire time I was ****ociated with her. She gets emotional and will talk on the phone with you for 10 minutes and you will have not once spoken about the property, but rather dole out excuses for messing up and tell you about her family obligations. TRUST ME SHE IS NO GOOD!
