Tomas Chaves helped both me and my mother purchase homes in Albuquerque. He is an excellent communicator and listener. He began by quickly showing us the best choices that matched our expectations. He was always flexible to our schedule and showed us new properties in some cases before they were listed. He had extensive experience and market research to share no matter what the property. In the end we found excellent homes for each of us at prices well below what we believed possible. Although I did not end up purchasing that particular house, Thomas continued to look for prospective houses in my price range and desired locations. I selected Thomas Chaves as our New Mexico Realtor, online. I emailed our interest in working with him and he responded promptly. This was just prior to New Year's 2011. I'm was out-of-state buyer. Even though we lived in Albuquerque for a year (a few years ago) and know our way around (which helps), Thomas took on the challenge of working with me remotely. I believe he has a special designation and training in this. Having worked in the construction trade, Thomas has unique skills in sizing up houses that are stable, yet good deals. He is experienced in how the HUD home bidding and buying process works. He is able to point interested home buyers toward the online systems that can help them select homes they are interested in seeing. In working with us remotely, Thomas took a video camera to a home we were interested in. He posted the video online for our access. This way we could tell enough to know we wanted to bid on it. Thomas helped us through the bidding process and our contract was accepted. This was the beginning. I tend to be a "type A" homebuyer. Why look at the big picture when you can sweat the small stuff? Once I latch on to a house I want to buy, I'll drive anyone nuts until it's mine. I traveled to Albuquerque right before the big winter storm of February 2011. We were supposed to close on 2/8. Suddenly, the HUD home I was buying could not get it's inspections, meters, hookups. The entire state of NM was under a state of emergency. The home inspection was delayed. The closing was delayed twice. Homeowner's insurance policy effective dates were delayed. The gas company took twelve additional days to set a gas meter and turn on the gas. We were in the unfortunate position of getting the electricity and water turned on before there was gas for the furnace. Thomas brought one of his own space heaters over to help keep the pipes from freezing in some of the coldest, sub-zero weather to strike New Mexico in nearly forty years. My travel plans were delayed by a week. Through all of this, Thomas stayed in constant communication with me, offering concrete and moral support. He went above and beyond the role of realtor and became a trusted friend. The world is shifting and changing around us (literally) and Thomas (having experienced, firsthand, the perils of war as an Afghanistan veteran) stays calm, focused, loyal, and battle-ready. He offers strategic and tactical plans to survive the home buying process. I do not exaggerate. If you want a realtor to stand by you and bring home your sale, pick Thomas Chaves. He is humane, understanding, and universal in his dedication to his fellow human beings and travelers.
Being A First Time Home Buyer Was Scary!
Being a first time home buyer was scary but not knowing ANYTHING about purchasing a home was paralyzing. I knew that I didn’t want someone that was pushy, inexperienced, or just trying to make a buck off me, so initially I decided to go at it alone. I must have looked at hundreds of properties online and contacted three different realtors before calling Thomas. I knew instantly after contacting Thomas that he was the one. His professionalism, down to earth personality, and his experience were everything that I was looking for. I needed someone that I could trust and that would listen to exactly what we wanted in a home. After only seeing 20 properties we found our dream home....Literally. I never knew that we would be able to live in a house that had everything we needed to make it a home. Thomas made it so easy. He knew who we needed to talk to for financing, where we needed to go for closing, what we needed to sign and why. He was in constant contact letting me know exactly what I needed to do next.
