First Time Homebuyer

I found my agent by searching the profiles on the Coldwell Banker Gundaker website. I liked her profile the best because she was from the area and would know the city well. The first time I spoke with Sherry I knew she would be a good agent. She helped me find my home within a week and we closed not long after. She is very knowledgable about common home problems and has great tips on decorating. After meeting with her the first time it was like talking to a family member or long time friend. I recommend Sherry if you want an agent that will be truthful and genuinely concerned about where you will be living.

Interview

What year did you become a real estate agent?
2003
How many years have you been in Real Estate?
I have been a Full time agent since 2003.
What is the average home price in your market?
The average home prices range from $180-$235,000. This includes all homes.
Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
Being an agent is so gratifying to me, I couldn't of picked a better career for myself! I love helping buyers find that home to make dreams come true and I love helping my clients prepare the home for sale. There is nothing more satisfying then sitting at the closing table with my clients and seeing the excitement and smiles on their faces! I still get choked up everytime I hand the keys to a 1st time homebuyer! This job lets me help make dreams come true--what could be better?
What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
The most challenging issue I feel is when I am helping a client prepare to list their home for sale and they don't let my expertise and experience work for them. I know what buyers are looking for and what they expect to see in the type of home my client is listing. I also know what other agents are looking for in the same type of home--thats my job. Home sellers need to trust their agent and knowledge, after all that is why they called them! When my clients trust my knowledge & experience, we both are successful!
Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
One moment that I will never forget is when I helped a client who was a 65 year old lady purchase her very 1st home! We both were crying at the closing--I will never forget her! Another was when I met a client that needed to be in Atlanta in a month for a job transfer, they took my suggestions and 3 days later we had 2 contracts and sold the house over the asking price and closed before they had to leave for Atlanta!
What is your best characteristic?
Thoughtfulness, sincerity, honesty and action! When I am working with new buyers I tend to look at the home with this in mind: "Would I put my daughter or son in this home"? If the answer is yes, then I know that this is a good home for my clients! Also knowing that I have a great team of professionals to help make the selling/buying process go smoothly for my clients is also a great asset. I have a terrific bulding inspector, Heating & Cooling contractor, Electrician, Roofer, Plumber & Landscaper!
Who or what inspires you the most?
Wow, there isn't just 1 person or event--how could there be? My parents stand out to me, they have always been there for anyone they knew that needed them, they help, hug, talk..whatever is needed. They trust & understand, they want the best for you, my parents have been together since high school and just celebrated 46 yrs. together! My sister: she has had a lot dealt to her. Diagnosed with MS 10 years ago, loss of her 10 yr. old son suddenly, then divorce. But even thru all this, she continues daily to look forward-to build for her own future, to find what works for her that day. When hit with physical and emotional hardships like my sister, your personal inner strength, faith and love of friends & family help carry you over those rough times and sets you down where you can start clearing the future for yourself. My grandaughters: When I look into their eyes, I know that I want to be able to be there, and help them throughout there lifetimes. My daughter is a fantastic mother which means I did a great job! She inspires me daily to be better & be stronger. The love and friendship that we have is stronger then ever. My son, who is in Afghanistan in the Army, helps keep me grounded and focused. His world is different then he has ever lived. The idea of never knowing what to expect, keeping a level head, adjusting and dealing with the unkown. My partner in life: Kris gives unconditional love, caring, non-judgement, listening & understanding. I can't imagine not having Kris in my life to round out all the important parts of me and my life. I am very lucky to have all these wonderful people in my life and I try hard each day with each & every client to give all these beautiful traits in helping with their needs.
What is the best advice you ever received?
My 10 year old nephew left a very impressive message to everyone. I miss him terribly, but it is amazing that one little boy could have such an impact on a family and a community. He said: "BE YOURSELF", which if you think about it, if you are not being yourself, your not being completely honest, which can't make you happy....... Be yourself, trust yourself, thats is what I do!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I Love my wonderful city of St. Louis! I love having the seasons changing--could do without the humidity tho! I have always loved the N.E. but not sure that I could really handle the winters! The farthest south would be beautiful Atlanta area! Another place that is just beautiful is the Saugatuck Michigan area! Such a big beautiful world, so many places! Any of these places would be wonderful, but none would be complete without my family and friends, so I guess we will be staying in wonderful St. Louis!
