- The average price of homes in my area is $375,000.
- Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
- There are several aspects of this profession that appeal to me. First off, I like helping people. I enjoy educating them on their options and assisting them in the largest transactions they are likely to make. Secondly, I enjoy the valuation process. I like numbers and plotting trends to see what price I can get for my clients.
- What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
- I think the biggest challenge in this region is helping people realize that the national Doom and Gloom report we hear isn't as bad here as in other parts of the country. People are hesitant to sell their home for fear of a weak market, and buyers are hesitant to make a purchase that will lose value. And they have every reason to be cautious. But too much emphasis has been placed on volatility and not enough on variation by region. This region is doing relatively well. Getting that message out is pretty tough.
- Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
- I had a set of first time home buyers, looking at condos in Columbia. We saw about ten properties over two weeks. When we came to the property that was to be their home, a light shone on their face as they moved from room to room getting more excited at each turn. When we left, they were skipping through the house. I was so happy to get to share that joy.
- What is your best characteristic?
- I will claim two characteristics. I am patient and I am meticulous. I want my clients to take their time in finding a place, ask every possible question, and weigh every option. When they are satisfied with the choice and we make the offer, I am working my checklists, doing everything I can to make the transaction smooth and pain-free.
- Who or what inspires you the most?
- I am very inspired by my parents. They continue to be the best examples I have in my life for how to be responsible and happy at the same time. No one I know works harder, and no one I know understands better when to put the work aside to take in the life around us.
- What is the best advice you ever received?
- A gem from my grandfather. "Take it one step at a time. No one ever climbed Everest in a day. At the bottom looking up, it is easy to be discouraged. But if you set small achievable targets, they can stack higher than any one mountain."
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
- There are so many options, it would be hard to choose just one. I have lived in Europe, in the South (Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee) and in the Southwest (New Mexico) and they all have endearing features. But were I to win the lottery, I'd probably pick Europe, Germany or Austria. Never made it there and I have heard they are beautiful places.
