Why go with anything but the best? - Paul Tumminello (Jul 25, 2007)
Paul Tumminello bought a home and would recommend using Peter for your home purchase. Comments:

"When I was ready to make a purchase on the Vineyard, I looked into the two buyer brokers on the island. I perused both web sites, called both and chose the obvious best. One was sales pitch and the other was just one bold guy who knew what he was talking about! Sign him as your agent and you get a real education. With his Inner Circle e-Newsletter, you have a wealth of information to work off of, straight talk about the housing market and what to look out for and what to avoid.
He would absolutely rather lose a sale than steer you into the wrong property. It boils down to decades of experience in the housing market on MV coupled with integrity. Yes we found that perfect property! And after the sale his newsletters keep coming if you so wish, not only keeping you abreast of the market, but keeping you entertained as well. Thus another reason I don't need television! At the risk of stating the obvious, I will recommend the only knowledgeable buyer-broker on the Vineyard, Peter Fyler!"

"Peter worked tirelessly for me. Because I was remote, on the mainland, but wanted a Martha's Vineyard home, I needed a trustworthy agent to do the legwork for me. Peter's "fault", if he has one, is that he is very honest. If a house wasn't in great shape, he didn't sugar coat it, he told me the honest true. This saved me time and money - I only visited the Vineyard to see properties that really matched what I was looking for. As a result, I visited properties twice with Peter and the second time his phone call to me had excitiment - he claimed to have found the perfect house for me and said I must come see it. Boy did he hit the nail on the head - the house wasn't yet on the market and I got the first look and scooped it up. Peter found my dream home within my price range (and I don't have millions, not even one). I would highly recommend Peter and SplitRock Real Estate"

Are there any new developments or trends in your area?
With the downturn in the ecomomy during the last several years we are starting to see more short sales, foreclosures adn REO's. However, overall our market has not readjusted down more than about 14%, and that is mostly at the lower end. Entry level is now hovering around $400,000.
Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
That is simple --- I love helping people and I get great satisfaction and joy when I find the perfect property for my buyer clients --- their dream home. I also love to shop and negotiate which is why I only work with Buyers.
What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
I think the most challenging issue for me is making sure my buyer clients are treated fairly and the information they are given is accurate. I want them to be informed so they can make decisions they will be comfortable with.
Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
There have been so many fun and strange experiences; I like many others in my business could surely write a book.
I was working with a client who was totally unfamiliar with the Vineyard, so he sent his wife in his stead to view the properties he was interested in. She brought a couple of friends with her. We found a property that she loved and then he and I devised a negotiation strategy. I put together an offer and presented it to the seller's agent. The offer was below the asking price; however, it was a reasonable and thoughtful offer --- a starting point.
The broker called me back a few hours later and in a bewildered tone told me my client's wife had gone back to the property after we had last looked at it with her friends. The seller was at the property and invited her and her entourage in for tea. They got along famously and my client's wife began gushing about the property telling all her friends all the plans she had for the house. To make a long story short, the seller's response to the offer was, she knew the buyer loved the property and she was not budging off of her asking price. I called the husband and told him the good news, "your wife just cost you X-thousands of dollars." He laughed and they bought the house. We are still friends to this day.
What is your best characteristic?
I really listen and I care about the needs of my buyer clients.
Who or what inspires you the most?
Two things: the Golden Rule and my family.
What is the best advice you ever received?
For me it is "Unto thine own self be true" and "the joy is in the journey", and for my buyer clients it is "nothing is ever eaten as hot as it is cooked" and "if it is a rose it will bloom".
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I'm right where I want to be --- Martha's Vineyard Island. I LOVE IT!
