- What year did you become a real estate agent?
- 2001
- How many years have you been in Real Estate?
- 9
- What is the average home price in your market?
- $650,000
- Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
- Real Estate has been my passion since I was young. I became a lawyer though and not an agent. But my legal background has helped me in being a Real Estate Broker. I love helping people buy and/or sell their home. I love resolving problems that come up and I certainly enjoy the negotiation process that is involved in every real estate transaction !!
- What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
- Proving that this really IS a profession and that experience and knowledge are important in this profession. Just having a real estate license does not qualify someone to be handling such an important event in people's lives.
- Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
- There are many. But one recent one involved a couple who had been dissatisfied with the various agents they had worked with. They met Barbara, my wife and partner in real estate, at an open house and liked her, trusted her, and saw how knowledgeable she was. The four of us met and came up with a strategy to sell their house and convince the owner of the house where they met Barbara (it was not her listing--she was doing a favor for a fellow agent) to accept an offer on his home subject to the sale of our clients' home. Although he refused, enough negotiations had occurred where we knew that if we could show him that their house had sold but not yet closed escrow, he would be willing to accept our offer. We moved quickly, put their home up for sale, priced it "on the money" and within 2 hours of getting into contract (within 3 days of listing it), we were in contract on the other home. Our clients had been watching that home for over 1 year (it was severely overpriced and not selling and going down in price in a down market) and when they finally got it for $150,000 less than the new asking price, they were ecstatic. And so were we--pulling off a difficult transaction is a jubilant event for us and what drives both of us to be in the real estate profession.
- What is your best characteristic?
- The ability to listen to clients' needs.
- Who or what inspires you the most?
- I have had many influences in my life but I would have to say my Dad was the most influential. He taught me that if you decide to do anything, do it to the best of your ability and don't compromise.
- What is the best advice you ever received?
- Don't worry about what MIGHT happen. It usually doesn't. And when it does, one will be able to rise to the occasion to handle whatever comes up. Otherwise, 99.999% of what you worry about will be wasted because it won't have happened. That advice has made my life happier and easier.
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
- I have travelled to many places. Many are very beautiful. But I LOVE the San Francisco Bay Area for weather, activities, and proximity to so many varied areas. Overall, it is a great place to live and the home prices here reflect people's desires to live here if at all possible.
