- Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?
- I enjoy helping people through the process of a real estate transaction. Experience really helps here. Buying or selling a home is not like any other commodity. There is a lot to watch out for and I enjoy helping my clients navigate the sometimes choppy waters of such an important transaction.
- What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?
- Of course, I don't make decisions about any terms of a real estate transaction. My clients do that. I give advice and counsel. The challenge is that now, with the internet allowing so much access to the data, the client may THINK he is well informed. The human assistance of a real estate agent is often treated as secondary, when in fact, spending more time talking to your agent will help me to connect you to the right circumstance. It ultimately is about more than data.
- Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.
- Managers will hate this, but I once showed a client who was in escrow on one property (and about to remove all contingencies) another property that I was convinced he would much prefer. He did and after some deft maneuvering, the one escrow was cancelled and he and his wife succeeded in purchasing the preferred property. I feel good that I put the client's interest ahead of any thought of my own imminent paycheck...
- What is your best characteristic?
- I try to be a good teacher so that my client understands the process and what his choices are. I think I am a good listener (though I am told I do talk a lot...) and I sincerely put my client's interest first.
- Who or what inspires you the most?
- I am inspired by selfless people who value principles and are public in acting upon them.
- What is the best advice you ever received?
- Once upon a time, I thought I 'mis-heard' Wayne Dwyer referring to that old salesman adage: "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." I thought I heard him say: "You never get a second chance to make a last impression." I think that is a more valuable thought. Always treat people as best you can; you may never get a chance later to correct any impressions you leave.
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
- I have to admit, I love Marin County! A part of me is attracted to the tropical islands... Hawaii's Kauai or French Polynesia's Moorea. I don't think I'd suffer from 'island fever' like some, but I do love where I live now. Beautiful Marin County California.
