Shalene is an Excellent Realtor

Shalene Rose helped us find a home for our business, Awaken Cafe. What year did you become a real estate agent?: 2005
How many years have you been in Real Estate?: About 8 years now. I started out as an assistant to a Realtor in Berkeley and moved on to assist two
What is the average home price in your market?: It completely varies! I love working with people in all levels of the market.
Why do you enjoy being a real estate agent?: It's an important event in someone's life an I am honored to guide people through it. I also love bringing people together and making new friends. I get to do that everyday as Realtor. I have always been interested in architecture/building and am always learning things about that world, as well. I have a background in Biology/Ecology so I endeavor to help my clients use environmentally responsible options when renting, selling or buying a home. It's very rewarding to help people find a home or sell a home.
What is the most challenging issue you face as a Real Estate Professional?: Sometimes it's hard for me to understand the negative perception that the public has about realtors. There is a fear out there that agents want to get their commission at any cost to the client. I do see some agents like that...but most are hard working people who really care about representing our clients' best interests. Like any job, we work hard and try to do our best to serve our clients. My job is not to make a commission, my job is to represent my clients.
Tell us one of your client success stories or an interesting moment in your profession.: Every sale is a success story and every one has its unique quirks and exciting moments. It is very moving to be able to hand over keys to a first-time buyer.
What is your best characteristic?: I am friendly, down to earth and accessible, as well as a great negotiator. I am also very good at marketing homes. I just really enjoy the process!
Who or what inspires you the most?: Nature! :)
What is the best advice you ever received?: Focus on the present moment.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?: Oakland, Maui, Santa Cruz or Italy
