My wife and I recently purchased our first home through Derrick Coates and were very pleased with his Real Estate services. He was professional yet down to earth and truly helped to make the homebuying experience smooth and easy for us. We found him to be very honest and it was evident throughout the purchasing process that he always had our best interests at heart and protected them through and through. My husband and I interviewed several agents before hiring Derrick Coates. Our experience with Derrick was very professional and positive. We knew when comparing what other agents offer as marketing tools to get are home noticed, that Derrick Coates was the agent for us. He is very honest and although some of the things he told us about our house (ie; price) were not always what we wanted to hear, we knew that he was being honest and trusted him. The exposure that we received was amazing, once he listed our home and advertised it with great pictures, virtual tour, flyers, ads and on many internet sites. Derrick and his assistants were always there for us and provided us with any information we ever needed. We received updates regularly and could not have been more satified. He protected our interest and made us feel as though we were his priority. Thanks Derrick! (if you ever get this)!
Used Car Salesman
Please do not trust Derrick Coates. He is very good at telling people what they want to hear. We initially thought that he was a good person and thought that we could trust him. My husband I trusted him and lost $5000. Neither my husband or myself would ever recommend him to anyone. After we decided we didn’t trust him any longer, he threatened us that if we did not put him on our new home that he would make sure that we didn’t get our $5,000 back from the first home. He told us that he needed to pay his bills and that he was not going to let us leave him off the home. After we purchased our new home (with him as our realtor), he informed us that we would not get our money back and blamed us. This was a year ago and both myself and my husband still feel upset about it. We honestly feel like we were taken advantage and if I can save other families from this feeling I will feel like I am doing something about it. Overall he was rude, arrogant, greedy, and an outright bully.
Run Away!
Any communication with Derrick was done mostly through his assistants because he is always "busy." If you get to talk to him in person - he will have to call you back - and then doesn't. If you need information from him - expect to wait a couple of days, call him then talk to his assistant who will refer the message. Asked for flyers to put in the sign box for our house for sale - never got them. Every interaction with this guy has been completely unprofessional in every way - horrible. RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Service Before & After Sale
Purchased my current home through Derrick, awesome throughout the entire process! He took all the stress out of purchasing my home. He took time to go over paperwork, explain things thoroughly, paid attention to important things as well as small details too. He worked with our schedules even if it meant meeting later in the evening. Derrick & his staff scheduled inspections for us, called the Mortgage Broker, Escrow Company and really stayed on top of everything making sure all was in order and ready to go, and if it wasn’t-did everything possible to help get it taken care of, even when it wasn’t part of their job. Derrick made sure I didn’t make a hasty decision and went through everything in my price range available for sale before writing up a contract. Derrick knows the market, makes the process stress free as possible, has excellent service before & after, looks out for your best interests & does not overlook even the smallest details.
Awesome Agent
Derrick's the best agent I’ve ever worked w/ & I'm not easily impressed as both my inlaws are licensed agents. Prior to using Derrick I had some very bad experiences w/ other agents. WOW what a difference working w/ Derrick. He was down to earth, honest, ethical & to the point. Derrick got my home “out there” and shortly after it was listed w/ him, it went under contract. Derrick went over all the paperwork w/ us and was wonderful @ looking out for our best interests! He took the time to answer all of our questions & made sure we had a clear understanding. When the agent that sold our home to her clients was a mess & couldn’t keep her facts/paperwork straight, it was Derrick who came in & got everything sorted & under control. He was on top of his game & always looking out for our best interests.He took the time to do work other agents wouldn’t, paid attention to the important things as well as small details too. Derrick worked w/ our schedule & his customer service is superb!
Great Agent!
My husband and I had one bad experience after the other with every Real Estate agent we worked with over the years until we met Derrick Coates. He proved to be very patient and understanding with us as we knit picked every property and took up a great deal of his time searching for the perfect home. Though we have now chosen not to purchase at this time, we are so greatful to Derrick for the service he gave us and will definately be using him when we buy later on. Horrible
I would not recommend Derrick Coates. My wife and I used him and it was a horrible; we now wish that we would have searched more for a trustworthy agent. Mr. Coates was dishonest, greedy, lazy (we searched for the homes ourselves), and arrogant. He made a point to tell us numerous times that he is the "number 1" agent in Sierra Vista. We would encourage other families to do some research prior to utilizing Mr. Coates for his services.
Be careful!
I caution you to do your research on Derrick prior to using him. He comes across as caring, honest, and a "good person," however, you will soon find out that he is not what he initially came across as. I couldnt get ahold of him, he was late for meetings, and gave misleading information. Fortunately, I found this out in time to find someone else. The other realtor was careful as to the information they gave me but it is clear that Derrick has an interesting reputation. I firmly believe that it is my responsibility to warn others so that they can find a realtor they can trust so that they can enjoy one of the biggest purchases they'll ever make. FYI...I later found out that I was not the only one that had a bad experience. Others have informed me that all he does is talk about his website, about being the best realtor, and has the tendency to show homes where he will make more of a profit. After all of this information I am thankful that I was able to find someone else in time.
Extraordinary Agent
Derrick Coates is an extraordinary agent who truly cares about his clients. My wife and I have had to shop for houses in SE AZ in absentia, from our residence in NC. Derrick has given of his time and energy to travel to various houses we had interest in and take photographs and provide detailed reviews of those homes. His efforts have saved my wife and I valuable time, money and heartache. Every conversation I have with him finds him working on our behalf with endless energy and a truly re-****uring attitude of care and concern.
